At the Centre

on deviantART
I usually avoid fanfiction like I avoid the bubonic plague and other such diseases. Two traits you need to write fanfic are imagination and writing skills. A few people have one, or the other. Even fewer have both. It's not that I discourage writing fanfic, it's just that I have ridiculously high standards; I actually commend those ambitiously imaginative people who put the effort into writing about something they love, for fun. You don't have to be good at something, by anyone's standards, to do it anyway. Like drawing! Heehee~

Anyway this doodle is inspired by a Jelsa fanfic called At the Centre, by therentyoupay.

"The dog days are over"

Cardigan: Les Folies, TK Maxx
Blouse: Primark
Necklace: TK Maxx
Jeans: Topshop
Boots: Rockport, TK Maxx
Violin bag:

How's your long weekend been? Mine's been pretty crappy. A relative got injured but should make a full recovery, eventually. After drugs and root canals, I think my tooth is still infected - oh the irony. Finally watched Gravity and spent most of it sobbing loudly. That film was just so intense all the way through, no scene cuts, no flashbacks, no respite, and it made me realise exactly how scary space is, so I found the whole thing very emotional.

I'm also super hyped for How To Train Your Dragon 2, which I think is coming out in July for us Brits? And also Big Hero 6 next year! I know nothing about its source material but I saw the trailer and I'm hoping it's going to be as good as Wreck It Ralph.

Elsa and Anna, for Mir

on deviantART
I finished that drawing last week in time to give it to my sister, Mir, when I visited her on Saturday. It's supposed to be for her birthday but I couldn't wait. Sadly I'm not as good as A-KA, who is Mir's favourite Frozen fanartist, but it's the sentiment that counts?!

Whenever I'm doing traditional fanart I always end up charging past the point of no return - the point when it's too late to fix the lineart - because I'm so excited to finish. Then I scan it in and notice huge huge huge mistakes that I can do absolutely nothing about.

Tomorrow's my last official day of school. I'm going as an X/Y Pokemon trainer because it's a great opportunity to break out my Pikachu bag. Have a nice weekend!

Frozen/RotG doodle dumps

I finished an old doodle book and started a new one and the new one has posh thick paper so I feel like I have to do everything dead neat and tidy and serious

I'm quite impressed with myself that I managed these (above) at school without references

My recent days have consisted of a few leisurely(!) hours of proper revision in the comfort of my own home, padded out with angry violining (it's still the Vivaldi and it's still perfect angry-violining material) and heavy fangirling in the form of fanart. This is the (un)happy side effect of playing truant.

As I ease this blog into a gentle retirement to free me up for the life upheaval that will be uni, I've instead become mired into that detested time sink, Tumblr. There are so many fabulous artists down there, it's simultaneously inspiring and demotivational, but at the moment, crap fanarting is the only way I'm controlling my film obsessions.

Oh, and here's a little bonus: a WIP for my sister, Mir. I'm afraid I'll mess it up so I took a picture of it before it looks too bad. (The upside-downness is necessary.)

More animal bags

You guys seemed to quite like my post on animal bags, so here are some of them in action. Aren't those cat face bags so creepy and funny and cute at the same time? I was recently in town looking for a friend's birthday present, and we had a nose round Accessorize. So narcissistic am I, it gives me great joy to listen to the two shop assistants talk about my painted leather jacket and tartan skirt while I am admiring that owl bag Accessorize has.

My room

This has been my room for over ten years. It's basically just a bed - squeezed in the remaining floor space is a desk (no chair) and a small bookshelf. This is where I sleep and read. In just a few months I'll be moving to uni so I think now's a good time to take a couple of photos of what the place looks like right now.

To the right of the above photo is the rest of the dinosaurs and the rest of the Doctor Who poster. On the opposite wall are more Lord of the Rings posters (they've been up since the films came out over a decade ago) and a few Fullmetal Alchemist printouts of Mustang and his gang.

The amount of times someone appears on my wall is not necessarily proportional to how much I like him or her. For example, there are three 11th Doctors and only one Sherlock. There was a phase several years ago when there were about five pictures of Aragorn, some of which were huge. This is partly because Aragorn was my favourite character, but mostly because of the abundance of Aragorn posters available. Also, blu tack leaves marks on the wall which is why I try to overlap the pictures. Poor Legolas, who has a big mark on his nose from when I put blu tack there, is slowly getting covered up by newcomers like Mrs. Lovett and Jack Frost, haha.

Peter Pan collar

A failsafe way to add a touch of adorable to your outfit is with a Peter Pan collar. Pick up a simple top with collar already attached, or alternatively, buy or make your own detachable one! I got mine from New Look, and all you need is one of those mini safety pins to help hold it central.

I'm on my fourth rewatch of Rise of the Guardians and only now am I truly appreciating how magnificently scintillatingly resplendent she is. For this outfit collage I tried to go for high-saturation, exotic-looking stuff, with the theme of feathers, of course. I actually like some of the older designs for Tooth in the concept art with the Asian elements, and it's interesting to see how the design grew into this one. For example, compare the shape of her trousers on the old designs to the shape of her legs in the final one.

"That was then and this is now"

Denim jacket: Timberland
Cardigan: Les Folies, TK Maxx
Dress: New Look
Socks: Pringle, TK Maxx
Boots: Rockport, TK Maxx

My strongest association with this outfit is going to a uni open day with my parents. I really liked the place - the campus was lovely, the course was awesome, and to top it all off, it was a beautiful day. (Actually, I was blessed with excellent weather for all five of the open days I went to. Sunshine really does make a uni look more appealing.) After months of agonising I finally decided to put this uni as my insurance. I hope I made the right choice!

I'm so excited to go to uni. I want to go right now. But then there are those pesky things called exams that I have to do first. For some reason I have this ultra-glamorous image of being a uni student, strutting round the red-brick buildings surrounded by hip smart talented young people feeling like a rare Pokemon (dental students aren't that common) living the shiny glam independent life of a young person with her whole life ahead of her. I know it's not going to be like this and I know it will be crazy hard work but I can't help it.
